Just wondering if anyone has, or knows where to find, an updated micro list which uses the new scientific (Genus) names? Even better if it gives the old names and corresponding new names. It would save me trawling through the micro book and typing them in by hand  I'm going to try to update the spreadsheet I "liberated" from the NMN website a few years ago which has a species look-up sheet so that when someone inputs a species name, it automatically fills in the B&F and scientific name. Quite a few of the moth recorders here in Cumbria now use the spreadsheet to submit their records. It's also a handy method of checking inputs for spelling mistakes etc. - if one inputs a vernacular name wrongly, the other fields don't fill in.

Thanks

I think someone posted such a spreadsheet on the County recorders forum recently. I'll take a look. Still awaiting a date for completion of the revised British list, later this year hopefully.

Thanks Mike
That would be great to get the spreadsheet, thanks.
It might be worth waiting for the revised list before I finally start tinkering with look-up formulae though. Anything to put off doing it!

Cheers

Courtesy of David Slade, here's a spreadsheet which contains the new micro names with BnF number and MapMate name (as of MapMate back in the spring 2012):

Hope it is of use

Mike

My wonderful other half has played with the spreadsheet and highlighted all the species in yellow which have name changes. Makes it easier for me to find them quickly in the list. Obviously I can't upload it here. Mike, if you or David want the highlighted spreadsheet, let me know and I'll email it to you and, if you want to share here, it could go back on Dropbox?

CAn't you attach a spreadsheet here, Liz, or is it too big?

It's 202k, so maybe too big. However, when I try to attach the file it says it doesn't allow the file type extension, or words to that effect... Probably a security setting to prevent malicious bad things.

Hi Liz, I'd be really grateful if you could find a way to upload the file with the name changes highlighted. If not, could I drop you a PM with my email?

Thanks,
Nigel
