First found in Britain from a series bred from mines on hornbeam taken in Sussex. Now known from Essex, Buckinghamshire, Worcestershire and West Midlands, and probably spreading and more widespread. Wingspan 5-6 mm. The forewings are dark fuscous without the yellow base characteristic of
S. floslactella. Larva mines leaves of Hornbeam, where the mine cannot be clearly distinguished from that of
Stigmella floslactella, and breeding through of the larva, and subsequent genital dissection, would be required for record acceptance.
