Notes: Common in deciduous woodland throughout the British Isles. Widespread and often fairly common throughout Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 17-21 mm. Resembles N. schwarziellus, with long white antennae and yellow-orange head tufts, but larger and with no discal spot; flies earlier in the year (MBGBI Vol 1). Larva feeds on dead leaves, living within a flat, movable case on the ground, and over-wintering twice.
