Notes: Nationally scarce (Nb) throughout much of England, with records north to Yorkshire. In Hampshire confirmed from Emery Down and Holmhill in the New Forest, Itchen Abbas and Chandler's Ford, and on the Isle of Wight from Shanklin. Wingspan 10-14 mm. Similar to Brown-dotted Clothes Moth N. fuscella, from which separated reliably only by dissection of the genitalia. Larva feeds on detritus in bird nests, living within a silken tube or tent.
