Notes: Common in open woodland, heathland, gardens and freshwater margins throughout the British Isles. Widespread and common in Hampshire but only recorded from the the Isle of Wight in recent years around Freshwater. Wingspan 10-12 mm. Generally a fairly distinctive species, but variable, with plain forms difficult to distinguish from plain forms of A. brockeella, which see. Larva mines young shoots and catkins of Silver and Downy Birch, and Alder.
