Local in woodland, thickets, copses and areas with scattered trees throughout much of the British Isles, except for the far north of Scotland, the Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland. In Hampshire there have been only a few recent records at widely scattered sites across the county. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight in recent years. Wingspan 16-20 mm. Larva feeds on Elm and Beech, beneath a silken web, over-wintering as an egg.
