Rare (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) on grassland in southern England, north to Worcestershire. In Hampshire known only from Leckford, but not recorded in the county since 1986. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 9-10 mm. Formerly lumped with E. obliquella and very similar to several other Elachista species with worn females of E. bisulcella in particular frequently misidentified as this species. Larva mines leaves of Cock's-foot and False-brome.
