Local in scrubland, unimproved grassland and heathland throughout much of the British Isles. In south Hampshire, widely distributed from Holmsley Inclosure in the west to Oxenbourne Down in the east, with a significant population in Botley Wood; in north Hampshire, recorded once, at Wildhern in July 1998; on the Isle of Wight, recorded on a few occasions on the south-west coast, but not since 1978. Wingspan 10-12 mm. Larva feeds within roots and lower stems of Sheep's Sorrel.
