Notes:
Local in woodland, heathland, scrub and fens throughout the British Isles. In Hampshire known recently only from Botley Wood and Sparsholt. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight since 1978. Wingspan 12-15 mm. Differs from C. fugitivella in the absence of raised scales and the dark streak on the fold of the forewing; similar to Teleiodes wagae but has a lighter ground colour and the markings are distinct black dots, whereas in C. notatella they are streak-like and diffuse; T. wagae also has a darker hindwing (MBGBI Vol 4 part 2). Larva feeds on Goat Willow, living within a spun or rolled leaf, over-wintering as a pupa.
