Vulnerable (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) and confined to sparsely vegetated open ground on both coasts of Devon, where first found at Axmouth in 1983, Dorset, where known from several sites, and Hampshire, where first noted at Milford-on-Sea in 1987, but not since. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 13-14 mm. Only separable from S. diffluella by dissection of the genitalia. Larva mines leaves of Colt's-foot, over-wintering as a pupa.
