Notes: Local in woodland throughout much of the British Isles, south of Inverness-shire. In Hampshire recorded less than annually from scattered localities across the south of the county. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight since 1969. Wingspan 10-14 mm. Distinguished from Phtheochroa sodaliana by its smaller size, the generally darker coloration of the forewing, and the relatively whiter hindwing of the male and dark greyish fuscous hindwing of the female [Bradley]. Larva feeds within seedheads of Bluebell.
