Local on upland heathland over much of the British Isles, also at lower altitudes, but absent from much of south-eastern England. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 13-18 mm. Distinguished by the contrasting basal and distal areas of the forewing in both sexes, and the strongly bipectinate antennae of the male [Bradley]. Larva feeds on Heather, Common Rock-rose, Bird's-foot Trefoil, Greater Plantain, Ribwort Plantain, Cinquefoil, Bilberry and similar, living within a spun or rolled leaf.
