Nationally scarce (Na) in woodland in parts of southern England. In Hampshire very local and primarily associated with semi-ancient woodland, principally Botley Wood and a few sites in the New Forest, and in the north from Pamber Forest. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 17-21 mm. Distinguished from E. profundana by the obsolescent basal fasciae, which are never strongly developed on the dorsum, and the deeply indented whitish dorsal blotch [Bradley]. Larva feeds on Apple, living within a spun or rolled leaf.
