Notes: Local in woodland, gardens, orchards and parks throughout much of Britain. In Hampshire local in scattered locations, in the south from Mottisfont to Emer Bog, Botley Wood and Wickham Common in the north in Harewood Forest, Pamber Forest, Bartley Heath, Eelmoor Marsh and Fleet Pond. There have been no recent records from the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 13-18 mm. The contrasting white costal and grey-black dorsal areas of the forewing, together with the ferruginous apical area and the submetallic blue-grey ocellar area, are characteristic [Bradley]. Larva feeds on Aspen, living within a spun or rolled leaf.
