Extinct in the British Isles, formerly on lightly wooded slopes around Aviemore, Inverness-shire. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 15-20 mm. In general appearance similar to some female forms of R. stagnana, but larger and with the forewing not attenuate; in R. stagnana the outer edge of the basal patch is sharply defined and less irregular throughout [Bradley]. Larva feeds on Aspen, living between leaves spun together with silk.
