Main: (Crambidae / Odontiinae)
63.056 [B&F: 1359] Cynaeda dentalis ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Notes: Nationally scarce (Na) on calcareous grassland and shingle beaches in parts of south-eastern England, predominantly coastal. In Hampshire resident at low density on Hayling Island and in 2015 a new population was identified on Browndown Coastal Ranges: a population existed on Portsdown Hill but no records were received between 1975 and 2015, until one was trapped there in 2016, so hope remains that this colony continues, albeit at a low level. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight since singles in 1951 and 1974. Wingspan 24-29 mm. Distinctive and easy to recognise. Larva feeds within stems and leaves of Viper's-bugloss.
