Main: (Crambidae / Pyraustinae)
63.022 [B&F: 1385] Anania crocealis (Hübner, 1796)

Notes: Local in water meadows, marshes, river-banks and damp areas throughout much of England and Wales. Probably under-recorded in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight, where the extent of known records correlate with those areas in which the recording effort is concentrated. Wingspan 22-25 mm. The most likely confusion species is Udea lutealis, in which the cross-lines are more intricately sinuate, the stigmata are larger and clearly outlined, and there is a dark cloud in apex of hindwing [Goater]. Could also be mistaken for the extremely rare Paracorsia repandalis. Larva feeds on Common Fleabane and Ploughman's-spikenard, living between leaves spun together with silk.
