Common in open areas and gardens throughout much of North America. Two were found at Barnstaple in Devon in 1820, presumably having arrived on board a ship from North America. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 20-30 mm. Larva feeds on various grasses.
