56.0001 [B&F: 1538] Spanish Festoon (Zerynthia rumina) (Linnaeus, 1758)

 

Notes: Locally common, in scrubland, maquis, rough ground and dry open areas; 0-1000 m throughout much of south-western Europe. One was found in Brighton in 1877, having probably been accidentally introduced as a pupa. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 44-46 mm. Larva feeds on Birthwort.
