Common in gardens, market gardens, allotments and farmland; 0-1000 m (0-2600 m in Europe) throughout much of the British Isles, arriving as a migrant in significant numbers in most years; mainland Europe and Fennoscandia. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread and common. Wingspan 57-66 mm. Larva feeds on Cabbage, Brussels Sprouts and Nasturtium, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas.
