Local in woodland clearings, hedgerows and scrub; 0-1400 m throughout much of northern Europe; in Britain appears as a very rare immigrant in the south. One, perhaps a genuine migrant, was found in Surrey in 1982. Not recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 32-38 mm. Larva feeds on Stinging Nettle.
