Local declining, in coppiced woodland, heathland and woodland clearings throughout much of England, a priority species under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight there are few recent records of this species, and none from the Isle of Wight, and the species has declined dramatically since the middle of the 20th Century. Wingspan 25-32 mm. Fairly unmistakable. Larva feeds on Pedunculate Oak, over-wintering as a pupa.
