Common in open broad-leaved woodland and mature hedgerows throughout much of England, Wales and southern Scotland. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight widespread but scarce in deciduous and open coniferous woodland where there is a good growth of bramble. Wingspan 34-38 mm. Unmistakable. Larva feeds on Bramble, Dewberry, Raspberry and Hazel, over-wintering as a pupa.
