Main: (Geometridae / Larentiinae)
70.101 [B&F: 1775] Mottled Grey (Colostygia multistrigaria) (Haworth, 1809)

Notes: Common on heathland, moorland, downland and woodland margins throughout the British Isles. In Hampshire widespread, recorded in most years, but only in small numbers, and absent from several 10km squares in the north, but perhaps overlooked due to its early flight season and nondescript appearance; very uncommon on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 26-31 mm. Mottled veins are the best distinction from other nondescript spring geometers, such as Early Tooth-striped Trichopteryx carpinata. Larva feeds on Lady's Bedstraw, Heath Bedstraw and Cleavers, over-wintering as a pupa.
