Classification

Family:Geometridae
Subfamily:Larentiinae
Genus:Rheumaptera
Species:cervinalis
Authority:(Scopoli, 1763)

Local in hedgerows, gardens, parks and on roadside verges throughout much of England. In Hampshire continues to be uncommon, with few recent records; this is somewhat surprising, given that the larva thrives on cultivated Berberis elsewhere in the country. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 42-48 mm. The most likely confusion species is Tissue Triphosa dubitata, but Scarce Tissue has two dark costal streaks on underside of the forewing, absent in Tissue. Larva feeds on Barberry, over-wintering as a pupa.
