A rare Red Data Book species, on high moorland and mountainsides, in the central Scottish Highlands, a priority species under the UK Biodiversity Action Plan. Unlikely to be recorded in Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 23-25 mm. The main confusion species is Common Heath Ematurga atomaria, especially females of the small dark upland form, but in Common Heath the two median fasciae merge before meeting the dorsum. Larva feeds on Bearberry, over-wintering as a pupa.
