Notes: Common immigrant from mainland Europe, appearing throughout the British Isles, in some years arriving in sufficient numbers to breed in very small numbers. In Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight a fairly common migrant throughout, most common near the coast. Wingspan 45-56 mm. Thorax with longitudinal crest, often silvery grey. Larva feeds on Dandelion, Dock and Red Clover, causing sufficient damage to be a serious pest in some areas, unable to over-winter in significant numbers.
