Nationally scarce (Nb) in fens and open woodland in parts of south-eastern England, where virtually restricted to Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Northamptonshire. In Hampshire a small colony was discovered in 1968 in the reed-bed at Browndown on the south coast and occasional wanderers have been reported nearby. On the Isle of Wight, there are two old records from the Sandown district. Wingspan 26-30 mm. The most likely confusion species is
Concolorous C. extrema, which see for differences. Larva feeds on Wood Small-reed.
