Nationally scarce (Nb) in open woodland and gardens throughout southern England and northern Wales. Barely annual in Hampshire, where recorded widely, but only regular on the coast in the south-east of the county; very rare on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan 16-21 mm. Positioning and size of scale tufts on dorsum, and fuscous colouring distinguish Y. horridella from its congeners. Larva feeds on Apple and Blackthorn, beneath a silken web, over-wintering as an egg.
