Local in woodland throughout much of southern Britain. In Hampshire remains a rare species, with a scattering of records across the county. On the island, the first county record was from Briddlesford Copse in 2015. Wingspan 18-20 mm. The main confusion species are P. flavifrontella, which appears earlier in the year, has the abdomen coloured ochreous dorsally, and is generally slightly larger, but from which reliably separated only by dissection of the genitalia; and P. subochreella which also appears earlier, but has a usually unmarked forewing and a contrastingly darker hindwing (MBGBI Vol 4 part 1). Larva feeds on Bilberry, living within a movable case; case length 10-12 mm.
