Local in woodland and heathland throughout England, north Wales and the Scottish Highlands. In Hampshire there are scattered record in both vice-counties. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 12-14 mm. The main confusion species is C. proximella, from which C. alburnella can be distinguished by the clear white coloration of segment 2 of the labial palpus (MBGBI Vol 4 part 2); see also C. decorella. Larva feeds on Birch, living within a spun or rolled leaf.
