Recorded infrequently through accidental importation from Asia, perhaps now established on the Canary Islands, from where migrants may have reached Portugal and elsewhere. Recorded on the Isles of Scilly in 2001 and Devon in 2007, probably the result of importation in plants. In Hampshire, recorded for the first time at Southsea on 12 September 2010, with further records in that area in 2011 and 2023. Identified by the combination of dark coloration, long palps and shape of termen. Larva feeds on various sedges.
