Local in woodland on Jersey, where present since at least 1917, but not recorded on the British mainland until 19 July 2003, when a female was trapped at Portland, Dorset. Now known to be resident here and in Cornwall. On the Isle of Wight, recorded for the first time at Bonchurch in August 2008, with further records at the same site in 2010 and 2011, with Hampshire's first record coming from Stubbington, in 2013. Blair's Mocha C. puppillaria, which see, records have become increasing in number with a distinct upturn in 2022 and 2023, by which time the species has reached the north of the county.
Wingspan 28-32 mm. Larva feeds on Pedunculate Oak and Turkey Oak, over-wintering as a pupa.
