A Mediterranean species, occuring from Spain east to Greece and Turkey and recorded from Africa down to South Africa, and can be an abundant species on dry grassland. One was recorded, first for Britain, in Titchfield, South Hampshire on 25th October 2022 at a time of persistent southerly winds which brought in a large number of migrant moths - including an unprecedented number of Crimson Speckled.
